beginner question about need for non-stop connection

Posted on December 11, 2017

Hi everyone, Can somebody please answer me on one simple beginner question; do I need to be non-top connected to my droplet in order for it to be up and running? Question sound stupid, and answer is probably - no… but still - I want to be sure. Branislav

The answer is no. There’s no need to remain connected with an SSH session in order to ensure a droplet stays up and running.

Your droplet is always powered on and connected to the internet/network - as long as there are no problems on DigitalOcean’s end, and you haven’t blocked any network services using something like a firewall. Droplets can also be shutdown and taken offline (which you may already know).

Some software packages exist to help keep other programs (processes) active once an SSH session is over, but this is different to what you were asking I think. Examples of these would be things like: screen, tmux, and mosh.

Thank you for answer. The reason for my doubt was a fact that there was an error message when trying to connect second time. Now I’m normally connected. Since I’m connected to IOTA tangle and don’t know much about it - it’s possible that someone disconnected me from that network. I can’t remember what was an exact error but as I can remember it was something cryptic about software error.
