To my knowledge, you cannot pay for a year, but you can put a credit on the account via PayPal. A 512MB server runs about $60, if you don’t go over on bandwidth.
If you go to https://cloud.digitalocean.com/user_payment_profiles and select “Pay $10.00 USD”, then click the gold “Pay Now”, pay via PayPal, then do it again, this time selecting “Pay $50.00 USD”, you will effectively paid for 1 year in advance.
