Cannot input text into console

Posted on July 17, 2020

Hi, I am trying to deploy Wordpress on ubuntu 18.04 by following this: https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/droplets/how-to/connect-with-ssh/

However, when I open the console and attempt to input root into the login, nothing responds. I am new to Digitalocean and the droplet, but it just seems that I cannot input text into the console to start the creation of the wordpress deployment and website. I am also trying to follow this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=OA7t9zzL3DM And again, once I’ve created the wordpress droplet, and try to log into the console, I cannot input text. I have tried multiple keyboards, and it doesn’t seem to work.

Regards, Jeremy

Hi there @jdelavaulx,

Rather than using the web console, I would recommend using SSH.

If you are on a Mac, you can follow the instructions here:

https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/droplets/how-to/connect-with-ssh/openssh/

And if you are on a Windows PC, you can follow the instructions here:

https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/droplets/how-to/connect-with-ssh/putty/

Let me know how it goes! Regards, Bobby

Hello, jdelavaulx

The Droplet console provides out-of-band access and is available regardless of your network settings. It emulates the access you would have if you were sitting down with a keyboard and monitor attached to the actual server. You can use this feature to log in and revert bad settings to regain normal access.

You can also check our docs on How to Connect to Droplets with SSH:

https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/droplets/how-to/connect-with-ssh/

There are two options at the bottom of the doc: Connect with OpenSSH and Connect with PuTTY

Hope that this helps! Regards, Alex
