DNS

Hi folks,

I have a vps server with Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS 64-bit with an ip-adres and i have a domain name.

What i want is when you type in the domain in the adresbar, you will get to the vps server. But i want the domain name to remain in the adres bar.

I configured the following settings in my hosting manager:

A record *.domainname.com to vps ip-adres
A record domainname.com to vps ip-adres
C-name www.domainname.com to domainname.com

Can anyone tell me what i need to do with the dns of the domain name and what i need to do with the vps server?

thank you

Just point your domain name to the DigitalOcean Name servers and setup some web srever on the VPS to serve the content.

I see,

But how can i do that? And why do i need to point my domain name to the DigitalOcean name server? Can't i just use my own?

You can either point your domain to our DNS servers and create your records via the DNS section of the control panel or you can continue using your current DNS services. If you choose the later you will need to create an A record to point your domain and any subdomains to your droplet's IP address.

Yes. you can use your own DNS server if you have configured it on your VPS or somewhere.

You need to login to your domain registrar and search for Name servers entry.

Under name servers you will see multiple textboxes where you need to specify DNS servers like ns1.x.com , ns2.x.com etc...

I realy dont understand what i need to do!!

I see 3 name servers in my vps (3 different ip-adresses) set by dhcp...

And my domain name has 3 name servers:
this is what i get when i use whois mydomainname.com

Name Server: ns3.firstfind.nl
Name Server: ns4.firstfind.nl
Name Server: ns5.firstfind.net

In the controle panel of my domain name, i configured the following settings in my hosting manager:

A record *.domainname.com to vps ip-adres
A record domainname.com to vps ip-adres
C-name www.domainname.com to domainname.com

What do i need to do with my vps? maybe /etc/apache2/sites-available ?
do i need to install a dns server on my vps?

Can anyone just tell me what to step by step?
