Question

Data domain 'xxx': name already exists.

I have bought a new domain and added digitalocean nameservers like i normally. But this time round when i cameinto digitalocean and tried adding it on the list of domains i got the error Data domain ‘xxx’: name already exists. Please help, it’s urgent. Domain provider have said everything is set correctly on their end.

Hello @zynamisltd,

The system performs a DNS lookup to see if the domain has already been added to DigitalOcean. If it has, you’ll receive a message that says Data domain example.com: Name already exists. If the domain has not been previously added to DigitalOcean’s DNS service, it will be added.

This means someone else has added the said domain to their account in the past. If you now own the domain, you’ll need to contact DigitalOcean support and ask them to remove the domain from the other account so that you can add it to yours.
