Linux Basics DNS Linux Commands

Hi all,

I have a list of domains (about 100 or so) in a text file called domains.txt, I want to find out the A records of all of those domains but I don’t want to do it manually for each single domain.

Is there a command that I could use to do this automatically for all domains?

Thanks!

Hello,

Yes, you could use this command to do a quick DNS lookup for all of the domains in the domains.txt file:

cat domains.txt |xargs -I % echo "echo % ; dig +short %" | sh

Hope that this helps!

Bobby

  • Thanks! This helps a lot, and if I wanted to check the MX record as well what would I need to do?

    • Hello,

In this case the command would be:

      cat domains.txt |xargs -I % echo "echo % ; dig +short % ; dig +short mx %" | sh

      Regards,
      Bobby
