Pablo,

Thanks for the link. I had used that previously when I set up the vanity nameservers originally. If I'm reading everything correctly, the glue records for the nameservers should be set with the registrar.

I've (hopefully) set this up correctly and will report back once DNS propagates and I have a chance to test.
Who's your registrar?
nic.io. My main registrar does not currently support the .io tld, or I would have it transferred.
Try contacting nic.io via their contact form: http://www.nic.io/contact.html

See if they support registering nameservers/glue records.
Thanks Kamal. That looks to be my next option. The fields available on their manage domain screen that appear to be for this use do not actually do anything.
Sounds good. Let me know how it goes :]
I contacted nic.io support, and apparently, I had set up the glue records correctly. I just can't read the output of dig correctly.
What's the domain name?
Your glue records are properly set up: https://p.kk7.me/dawicovabo.avrasm

I believe that's all there is to it. Please let me know if there's anything else you need help with :]
I just bought a domain on nic.io. What exactly does one have to do to get it working with my digital ocean account?
when I put in my digital ocean nameservers it gives me an error:

"You can not perform the action you requested on that domain. The ID you gave has an out of range value"
In case anyone was wondering: I had to email nic.io and they had to add the name servers themselves for some reason. Now it's working fine
