Question

Domain Name already exists

  • Posted February 1, 2022
  • DNS

I had an older account which used the same domain name, I lost access to the account and when I finally got back in it I decided to deactivate it. Now on my new account when I try to connect my domain, it just says it already exists. I’ve tried submitted a ticket but hasn’t worked because for whatever reason it is not allowing me to type in the description. I just want to move that domain over to my new account. Hello there,

The system performs a DNS lookup to see if the domain has already been added to DigitalOcean. If it has, you’ll receive a message that says Data domain example.com: Name already exists. If the domain has not been previously added to DigitalOcean’s DNS service, it will be added.

Hey @camrussell,

In our public community, we aim to answer open questions about anything SysAdmin, DigitalOcean and beyond. Basically, you need to ask DigitalOcean’s Support to transfer the Domain over to your new account. There is no other way around it.

If you are not able to add a description, can you please try and use another browser to see if the issue will persist?

Hope that helps! - KFSys.
