Question

Enabling CDC (change data capture) for Postgres

Hello,

I’m trying to replicate my database to Google Cloud BigQuery. It requires me to create a publication and a logical replication slot like this

> CREATE PUBLICATION datastream FOR ALL TABLES;
> SELECT PG_CREATE_LOGICAL_REPLICATION_SLOT('datastream_slot', 'PGOUTPUT');

Unfortunately, I can’t do it because doadmin is not a superuser.

Anyone had this issue before?

Hi there,

Because the doadmin user is not a superuser, you will not be able to create a publication for all tables.

But you can create a publication with the tables you want to replicate by explicitly specifying them, eg:

CREATE PUBLICATION datastream FOR TABLE table1, table2;

Best,

Hi @makarasok,

Are you using the DigitalOcean Managed Database product? In there you don’t have SuperUser rights as it’s a Managed Product.

I’ll recommend you to check the following docs of the product here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/databases/postgresql/how-to/migrate/

It can help you with suggestions on the Migrate you are trying to do.
