As mentioned DigitalOcean do not block CloudFlare in any way.
I’m unable to locate any information about 512 error code, may it have been 521 by any chance? If so you can check this docs here:

If not please provide full information about the error and we can check this together.

There are no restrictions on the DigitalOcean side for using Cloudflare.
Can you share more information about the problem and the exact steps that you are taking?
