history command not working on droplet

Posted on June 11, 2017

i am using ssh to log in to my DO droplet from an iMac running OS X Sierra. i have looked in ~/.bashrc on the droplet and see the typical lines setting up the history command (e.g. setting HISTCONTROL, HISTSIZE, HISTFILESIZE, etc)…however, the history command isn’t recognized, nor any invocations of it using ! etc. btw, when i tried to use source ~/.bashrc just in case it hadn’t been run on login, i got a message saying the source command is not recognized…also, there is no man page on source …so i’m wondering what’s going on, and why these commands aren’t active on the droplet running Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.13.0-85-generic x86_64)
