hi guys,
i have found this tutorial on how to host a owncloud server. https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-setup-owncloud-5-on-ubuntu-12-10 but it talks of domains and stuf and i don’t have a domain or have any idea how it works. I want to host owncloud to a group of computers running windows. and then have a owncloud server on a ubuntu machine. al the computers are connect through a lan switch. not a router. is this possible?
Thanx in advance.

“… but it talks of domains … and i don’t have a domain or have any idea how it works.”

You probably know more about domains that you give yourself credit for. If you know enough to be able to network a cluster of computers on a LAN, you’ve got the basic concepts down. If you’ll want to have remote access to the ownCloud server, you’ll need to register (i.e. buy) a domain name. You can get one from Godaddy for $2.49.

“al the computers are connect through a lan switch. not a router. is this possible?”

Yes.
