how do i change my index.html using filezilla

I have successfully installed LAMP and connected to my droplet via Filezilla.

How do i change the “It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.” page when someone visits the site?

according to filezilla there is an index.html file in folder: home/(my user) according to the forums my index.html file should be in the root directory. but when i attempt to open the root folder to place the index.html file in it it get this: Error: Directory /root: permission denied Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
