I have a droplet that is used for teaching a course. The university will no longer reimburse me for using DigitalOcean. Is there a way to download the VM so I don’t have to rebuild and reconfigure the server?

Unfortunately, you cannot currently download DigitalOcean backups or snapshots.
As an alternative, you can back up data locally using third-party tools like rsync or SFTP.

I had used sftp for backup. SFTP has certain limitations when it comes to full scale backup of the registered files, but nonetheless, it can get the job done.
