How do I point my domain to a DigitalOcean Droplet?

Posted on May 6, 2025

Hey everyone,

I just created a Droplet on DigitalOcean and I’ve got a domain name from Namecheap. I want to make sure that when people type my domain in the browser, it loads my site hosted on the Droplet. Can someone walk me through the steps to connect the domain to my server?

Thanks in advance! Sorry if it is a basic question, quite new to all this.

Hey there!

Happy to help! What you could do is:

  1. First, log in to your domain registrar (like Namecheap).

  2. Go to the DNS settings for your domain and add an A record that points to your Droplet’s IP address.

    • Host: @

    • Value: your Droplet’s public IPv4 (e.g. 104.248.xxx.xxx)

  3. (Optional but recommended) Add another A record for the www subdomain:

    • Host: www

    • Value: same IP address

  4. On your Droplet, make sure your web server (like Nginx or Apache) is configured to serve your site for that domain:

Hope that this helps!
