Question

how to connect to managed databases mysql to mysql shell (tried tutorial)

Hello, I am just learning how to make a simple web app with digital ocean but had trouble in verifying my managed databases mysql connection. I tried this tutorial https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/databases/mysql/how-to/connect/ I use the flags connection parameter but I am not finding success. I get the same error: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can’t connect to MySQL server on ‘x’

have tried disabling firewall, connecting with telnet (same message) changing trusted sources, using legacy password encryption. Any ideas appreciated!

Hi there,

There are a few things that you could check here:

  • Make sure that you are using the correct port, for the managed MySQL clusters, you should use port 25060
mysql -u doadmin -p<your_password> -h mysql-test-do-user-4915853-0.db.ondigitalocean.com -P 25060 -D defaultdb
  • If you are using a VPN on your laptop try disconnecting and see if it helps

  • Check if you have a local firewall on your laptop or your local network that might be preventing outbound TCP connections on port 25060. You can quickly verify this using the port quiz site:

telnet portquiz.net 25060

Let me know how it goes!
