I’m not sure if you’re using any automation once the user have registered to your site, but you can also manually create an A record for their subdomain, e.g A record for username.something.com pointed to the IP address of your droplet/server.
You can have multiple subdomains for something.com, e.g username1, username2 and so on.
If you can share more information about the whole setup we can go deeper in details about the whole configuration.
