Issue with FTP access and ProFTPD

Hey guys,

I just purchased the $5 plan and I’m really excited about it. I have installed the LAMP stack for Ubuntu 12.04 and also setup ProFTPd according to this tutorial: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-set-up-proftpd-on-ubuntu-12-04

I can ping the ftp server and everything but I am lost on how to login. What username do I use? What password? I have tried using root@domain.com and the password for the droplet and my digitalocean password and username but nothing seems to work. Did I forgot anything? Do I need to register the user first? I already contacted support and they told me to ask the community.

Thank you very much!
