Lost user/pass/email to WP

Posted July 1, 2021 82 views

I don’t have that info anymore and the Webmaster who took care of it is not in touch. Can I use my Plesk to change the user/pass or see what email it’s going to?

If so, how?

If not, what can I do?

Thank you!!

You can easily recover your WordPress password by accessing the admin area login page and click the “Lost your password?” link. You can then enter either your Username or Email Address to receive the new password.

The other option is the reset the password from the WordPress database directly. If the above option is not working for you, please check this question in the community:

  • Alex,

    The email is not an option as I didn’t set it up so I don’t know what email it’s going to.

    As far as the second option, I can’t find the “phpMyAdmin”. When I try to “Access Console” (plesk) it give me a black pop-up with command codes.

    Could you direct me with link how to get it done?

    • Hello, @JonathanSquid

      phpMyAdmin should be visible in the Plesk control panel. However, you can do this manually via the command line:

      1. Access MySQL as root:
      • mysql -u root
      1. List your databases:
      • show databases;
      1. Select your database:
      use yourdatabasename;
      1. List the database tables:
      • show tables;
      1. Update the password using this query:
      • UPDATE `wp_users` SET `user_pass`= MD5('yourpassword') WHERE `user_login`='yourusername';

      Keep in mind that if you have a different prefix for the database you will need to change wp_users to match your database prefix.

      Once this is done you should be able to access your database.

      Let me know how it goes.
