Mail configuration ISPconfig 3

  • Posted September 12, 2014

I recently set up a centos droplet with ispconfig 3, following some guides from digitalocean comunity (hostnames, dns control panel, etc.)

I’m getting some troubles with mail service,

I have 2 domains pointing to my droplet (digitalocean nameservers) i configured them in DNS control panel but i am not sure how to configure MX records, and how to configure on ISPconfig 3 control panel.

If someone can give me any advice.

The MX records should point to your email associated subdomain which should be located on your droplet (judging by your question, you’re not setting it up in another place). If you followed the ISPconfig3 documentation on installing you’ve probably used a subdomain like mail.yourdomain.tld . The MX record should point to that. Maybe my article on [e-mail server configuration] can help you get an idea on what you should consider.

The ISPconfig mail panel is pretty straightforward - you just “add mail domain” which would be the same with your hosted domain name. You can check the ISPconfig forums for more info

If your nameservers are pointing to DO dns servers don’t worry about mx records inside ispconfig.

In DO control panel for dns you just enter you droplet name. ( as the hostname and give it priority of 10.
