Need help with setting up domain and connecting with the droplet.

Posted on January 18, 2017

Hi,

Here is what I have done:

  1. I have created a Ubuntu LAMP on 14.04 droplet.
  2. I have a domain registered with Godaddy.com. I went into my Godaddy account and set the DNS servers as ns1.digitalocean.com, ns2.digitalocean.com and ns3.digitalocean.com
  3. I came back to digitalocean account and clicked on ‘Networking’ to add my domain.
  4. Added the domain name without www.

When I type in the domain name in the browser it just keeps searching for it. When I ping my domain name from terminal it say it could not resolve the host. What am I a missing here?

Thanks

If you just changed NS records to DigitalOcean in GoDaddy, then you probably have to wait for DNS propagation to finish. That can take up to 24-48 hours. After that period you should be able to access your Droplet via domain. If that period already passed, make sure you have correct A record under DO Networking settings.
