Possible to check monthly bandwidth usage?

February 28, 2016 1.5k views

Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to check and see how much a droplet used for bandwidth during the month. I know 1TB is a lot, but knowing me (you obviously don't know me personally) but I would like to keep tabs on bandwidth usage, as to not go over by accident.

Hey there,

I understand where you are coming from. Right now as of today, we can display a graph of the recent network interface traffic. However, the exact traffic details are not yet recorded. This may change in the near future and we're always looking to improve the graphs and data in our control panel. We would never bill you for any overages that you can not track or see and any time we make changes to our billing policies, we make sure to give ample notice to our users.

  • I would like to add in that my forum gets about 500 people online at once (probably 3/4 are bots...meh) and I really don't now how much bandwidth I'm using. Before when I was on lunarpages I was averaging about 200 people online at once and about 10-12gigs monthly. I'd like if we could get a snapshot maybe like per day or month or week or something...just something to number crunch our brains on :P

EDIT: Even an unreliable guesstimation with an error rate of like 25%...just something lol. :P

    • You can gauge the traffic sent through the web server logs or by using a program that watches the network interface in the OS.

The network graph in the control panel can give you a reasonable estimate of the usage that you can use to calculate a rough monthly estimate.

It'd be hard to guess at it though as I had a forum once with 500+ during active usage (measured within 10 minutes of activity) and I would push 1TB a month in bandwidth.

As mentioned, there are currently no overage costs for bandwidth.

    • Try Cloudflare.com free plan, even if you turn off caching you can still have the montly bandwidth usage. Plus if you use the cache from Cloudflare you will decrease your monthly bandwidth
