Regarding pre-pay options

Posted March 4, 2015 9.4k views

I am planning to deploy droplets on hourly basis, since I will not be needing them online the full time I will be saving their images and destroying the instances.

If I do that, I believe I will be saving my credit.

After a month, even if I have balance credit in my account, will I be charged via my credit card? I do not want to be charged if I have credit in my account.
Is the billing system pre-paid?
If not, how can I benefit from the hourly plans?

On the first of each month an invoice is generated based on your usage with droplets billed at their hourly rate (capped at the monthly rate for each droplet). Your card will never be charged as long as there is credit on your account to cover these charges.

Credit card payments are a post-payment method. Paypal can be used to pre-load credit on your account.

  • Thank you for the reply,
while performing the payment process, there was an option of ‘Make a one time payment’ or something as such, are you referring the same to pre-load credit? Will this one time payment procedure store my credit card info and auto bill me the next month?

Wanted to add one more question,
If I subscribe for the $10 pm plan, use a droplet for the first 15 days of a month and destroy it, I still will have $5 in my account, now if I spin up a new droplet during the beginning of the second month and would like to use it for the whole month.

What would happen in this scenario?

  • The one-time payment option is only for paypal. All Paypal payments are one-time payments with no recurring. Credit cards are added to the account and are charged on the first of each month if there is a balance due.

In your scenario you are starting month 2 with $5 in credit and are launching a $10/month droplet. Assuming you keep this droplet for the whole month you would use up your $5 in credit and when the first of the next month came you would have a balance due of $5 which would be charged to your credit card.
