Hi guys,

So I initially started my droplet without backups enabled a few months back. Yesterday evening I decided to finally do the whole

  • Take a snapshot
  • Destroy your current droplet
  • Create a new droplet and restore from snapshot

Unfortunately, I lost my original IP address in the process. So I updated my DNS on digital ocean and my web host to the new IP.

Despite this, I can't access my site from either the new IP address or the domain name. It just shows a white screen with continual loading.

It's a wordpress site www.geekymedics.com

I can access my droplet via terminal.

Is there somewhere on the server / wordpress database, that I also need to change the IP address or is it something else?

I'd really appreciate your thoughts, as we get a significant amount of traffic, and we've now been down over 12 hours.

Cheers guys

It works fine, wait for your DNS cache to expire.

If you're on Windows open the Command Prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns and if you're on a Mac you could follow the following guide/instructions to clear your DNS cache: http://www.ihash.eu/2015/01/clear-dns-cache-discoveryutil-mac-os-x-yosemite/

If you use a Linux distrubution you don't have to do anything, because Linux doesn't have a DNS cache (by default) installed.

Thanks guys. Turns out it was an issue with my hosts file on my mac. It had the old IP address still in there, hence why my computer was unable to access, despite multiple flushes of the DNS. Appreciate your input! :)

I have the same problem, I followed the commands on the tutorial that posted remzi1993 but still remains the same...how did you it?

  • Usually it takes 30 minutes to take the changes into effect.
If you came from an other hosting party than you will need to wait 24 hours to see your changes.
