Question

Softwre for windows operating system to do Web Caching

I just read your Blog on Web Caching Basics; it was very informative and well written. My current client is having some major issues with their web application not being able to download content in an acceptable time-frame due to some network limitations at their various work locations. One option that they want to explore in order to improve this performance is to:

· Cache certain files locally to one server and have all code from the application code files from the server.

My question to you: Do you know of any software options that can be leveraged on a Windows server to facilitate the caching/storage of these files so that they are easily managed and controlled? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few projects that support windows but I personally have never deployed them in that environment. The squid web proxy can be set up to do caching and will run under cygwin. Another option would be to install VirtualBox or another visualization tool on the windows machine and use it to run a lightweight Linux install with a caching proxy you can route traffic through.
