What is the reason for this report?

systemd[1]: File * configures an IP firewall (IPAddressDeny=any), but the local system does not support BPF/cgroup based firewalling.

Posted on April 16, 2020

I get a series of error messages of the kind

[35152.060905] systemd[1]: File /lib/systemd/system/systemd-udevd.service:35 configures an IP firewall (IPAddressDeny=any), but the local system does not support BPF/cgroup based firewalling. [35152.060911] systemd[1]: Proceeding WITHOUT firewalling in effect! (This warning is only shown for the first loaded unit using IP firewalling.)

when my system boots. When commenting the “IPAddressDeny” line out, the same error shows for another system service.

Is this affecting performance/security in any way? Could this be the reason my apache2 and mysql services often take minutes to boot up after a fresh restart?

Thanks, Nikolaus
