• Posted June 2, 2013

I have installed postfix on my virtual machine and i have also added the IP address of my computer to allow relaying for my computer on postfix.

But when i try to send email it says “temporary lookup failure”

I have checked /etc/resolve.conf and it has google dns server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

I am unable to rectify what can be the issue. Can someone please help me.

What command are you running to send email? and what email address are you sending email to?

Following is the output by host google.com,also i that was my typo i have dns servers 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 in /etc/resolv.conf

root@ns1:~# host google.com
google.com has address 74.125.226.201
google.com has address 74.125.226.197
google.com has address 74.125.226.192
google.com has address 74.125.226.200
google.com has address 74.125.226.195
google.com has address 74.125.226.193
google.com has address 74.125.226.199
google.com has address 74.125.226.196
google.com has address 74.125.226.206
google.com has address 74.125.226.194
google.com has address 74.125.226.198
google.com has IPv6 address 2607:f8b0:4006:800::1008
google.com mail is handled by 30 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 40 alt3.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 20 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 10 aspmx.l.google.com.
google.com mail is handled by 50 alt4.aspmx.l.google.com.
What does host google.com output? Make sure you have the dns servers in /etc/resolv.conf and not /etc/resolve.conf
