Virtual hosts created, now what?

Posted September 15, 2015 2.3k views

Hi everyone, hope you can help.

I have created the virtual hosts in /var/www using the apache virtual host tutorial but now I’m clueless. Could I just copy the files from html and paste it to this intended domain folder? and how do I find the link to access the other hosts? Confused and new to this so if anyone could walk me through it like I’m a child please? Thanks in advance.

You don’t need to create your virtualhosts inside the /var/www directory. That is used for the website files itself. Follow this tutorial exactly, and you should be able to connect to your site with your domain name. Keep in mind , you also need to or

  • Transfer the nameservers of your domain from your registrar to digitalocean and manage them here
  • Make an A / CNAME record inside the CP of your registrar wich has the host of your DO droplet IP
  • That directory was where the apache virtual host guide told me to use. Could you send the link for the tutorial you mentioned please?

    • No it doesn’t, follow the tutorial EXACTLY and use all the commands explained there. If you still don’t get it working give a post here from your;

      • /var/www directory
      • /etc/apache2/sites-available directory with an output of the items inside the files there
      • /etc/apache2/sites-enabled directory

      And tell me what your trying to accomplish, and what isn’t working.
