Question

What is considered as SPAM on Digital Ocean?

Hi! I want to set up an e-commerce site and send bulk email about products. I wonder what is considered as spam on Digital Ocean as I don’t want to get bad reputation for the droplet. Is there a special email limit per second/hour/day? Thanks on advance!

Hello @rexadmin

As of June 22, 2022, DigitalOcean is blocking SMTP for all new accounts. As a part of this new policy, we have partnered with SendGrid so our customers can still send emails with ease. You can learn more about this partnership and get started using SendGrid by checking out our DigitalOcean’s SendGrid Marketplace App.

Hi there,

In addition to what has been mentioned, I could suggest using a managed SMTP service like SendGrid for example. There is a 1-Click installation for this as well:

https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/apps/sendgrid

Also, I could suggest taking a look at this blog post here:

Hope that this helps!

Best,

Bobby

Hey @rexadmin,

First, I recommend checking this blog post:

If you aim to send a lot of messages, I’ll recommend getting a 3rd party mail provider while hosting your App with DigitalOcean. It’s not DigitalOcean that will give you a bad reputation but other websites as such using a 3rd party mail provider created just for such occasions is what I would go for.
