Question

What is happening with SMTP afterall?

Hello!

I have read latest information about SMTP port block on DigitalOcean, but I don’t quite understand for whom exactly is it blocked?

It says there “new accounts”, does it mean that all the accounts registered after 22nd June of 2022 will be permanently blocked from using SMTP port, or does it mean that a certain amount of time must pass before SMTP port gets unblocked, like 1 or 2 billing periods?

Thanks.

Heya @xxfogs,

This is for all new accounts and it should only be about port 25. There are a few ways to go about the problem

  • try using ports like 465 or 587 for SMTP
  • use a third party solution only for your E-mails. Good examples are sendgrid.

To expand more on blocking port 25 for new accounts, this is something DigitalOcean has been doing to reduce spam on it’s network. It is more that we simply cannot accurately determine who is going to send it.

Stopping spam is a constant fight, so DigitalOcean has implemented some restrictions on newer accounts. Having said that, you can always contact them and ask for the port block to be lifted on:

Hope that helps!
