Windows: Droplet asks for password with SSH Keys.

I’m having a problem connecting to my Droplet I just created: It keeps asking for a password even though I have setup SSH keys.

You have probably added a private password to the SSH key, try to use that password. If you got no idea what password you need to use, you can reset your password at your DO control panel and you can login again afterwards you get an email.

Hello all,

In cases like this one you can also specify the exact ssh-key that you want to use for the connection. It’s not uncommon to have more than one pair of ssh keys to access different droplets/servers and some of the keys might be password protected as well. In order to specify the key you can use the following command:

ssh -i path_to_key root@DropletIP

You need to replace the path with the actual path to your key. An example is:

ssh -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa root@DropletIP
