Hello DigitalOcean community and team,
I’m posting here as a last public-facing step after exhausting the support channel.
Ticket reference: !00Df2018t5m.!500QP01RVqzx
Background: My account was recently closed by the Security Team. I fully respect this decision and have NOT contested it at any point.
From my very first reply, I asked for one thing only: brief read-only access (or a snapshot export) to retrieve my own source code and project files from my Droplet. This is work I personally created — several weeks of AI development — and which legally belongs to me as its author.
Today, after 4 days of waiting, I received an explicit denial of the data retrieval request. The stated reason was procedural (“once the account is locked no further action can be performed”), with no lawful basis given for withholding personal data created by me.
I have today filed a formal Data Subject Access Request with DigitalOcean’s Legal and Privacy teams.
What I am willing to accept:
Question for the community / DigitalOcean staff: Has anyone successfully retrieved data from a closed account through the Legal/Privacy channel, or via DSAR? Any guidance on the right internal escalation path would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you. Huikang
