After creating a non-root sudo user , I can't log in from Putty with the new user's credentials. What am I doing wrong?

I followed this tutorial https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/initial-server-setup-with-ubuntu-18-04 but I used Putty on Windows. Is there some extra configuration I need to do?

I went to this page: Create a new SSH user on Ubuntu Server. There was a useful tip about editing the configuration file for SSH. So I ran this command

nano /etc/ssh/sshd_conf

I discovered a line at the end of the file

DenyUsers username

I changed it to

AllowUsers username

and I was able to log in remotely with the non-root user’s credentials. I had to re-start the ssh service

sudo service ssh reload
