I have a few WordPress apps on a Ubuntu-Nginx server environment I host here in DO.
Sometimes I don’t visit a site for a long time (>=1 month) and it might be that the site is down.
I’m looking for a humble payless service that will email/SMS/WhatsApp me if my website is down.
I would prefer an external zero-configuration third-party solution upon setting up an SMTP server in my Ubuntu machine and cron scheduling curl -l -L checks and email myself from my machine .
Do you know such a small third party tool?
Thanks,

As you’re using WordPress, you can try out some plugins. One of those plugins is JetPack. They have both free and paid plans, but you get Downtime Monitoring in the free plan as well.
Beside that, you can also monitor how your server is working – e.g. is RAM usage too high, or even too low. For that, you can check out DigitalOcean Monitoring. It’s not capable of application (WordPress) monitoring, but it can monitor the Droplet itself.
Would take a bit of work on your part, but you could write your own script that checks if WordPress is up and then use an SMS API to send a message
