Can I add the Block Storage to my main drive?

UbuntuUbuntu 16.04Block StorageStorage

I’m new to DO and I have this question that I haven’t found an answer to in the forums.
I have the most basic droplet ($5 one) and would like to extend its stroage space.
However, if I understand correctly, if I buy a block storage it would be added as an additional drive and I’d be ‘losing’ my 20GB main drive, I wanted to know if there’s a way to add the block storage space to the main drive so that they would be a single drive.
If you didn’t understand me, let’s say I want to host a 40GB file. I wan to be able to use my basic 20GB and purchase an additional 20GB block storage instead of buying a 40GB block storage and not using my main drive, like some king of a RAID array.
Thank you.

As far as I’m aware, this is how it works. You buy a volume with as many GB as you need, and then you attach it to the droplet, which gives it additional space. Since all of your installation files are stored on the 20GB, that will not be removed.

DO also charges $0.10 a month for a GB of storage. In your use case, you could pay an extra $4.00 a month and host the 40GB drive. Just keep in mind your bandwidth limit, which for the $5.00/mo plan is 1TB.

Please note that once you reserve a drive, until you delete it, you are charged the full price of the drive.
