I am using WordPress 4.1. My server runs on Ubuntu 14.10. Everything seems OK except the General Settings. When I try to go to general setting from the Dash board the browsers connection resets. Any kind of help is appreciated.

The issue is caused by the fact that the folder is owned by wp-user (per the instructions in the linked article), while the web service is ran as www-data
In the future, run this before updating/installing plugins/templates:
chown www-data:www-data /var/www -R
And once you’re complete:
chown wp-user:wp-user /var/www -R
Basically, this will stop people from uploading harmful files/code to your site. You can only modify when you allow it via a permission change.
Hello, all
You can make sure that the files/folders permissions and ownership are set correctly and also double-check if some of the installed plugins is causing the issue for you.
You can manually disable the plugins if you’re unable to navigate to the plugins menu in the WordPress admin area using the WP-CLI utility or manually by temporary renaming the plugin directory.
Regards, Alex
