Certbot doesn't work anymore. ACMEv1 has been terminated. What to do?

Posted on June 10, 2020

As I was following the tutorial on digitalocean’s doc on how to setup a free SSL using certbot: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-secure-apache-with-let-s-encrypt-on-ubuntu-16-04.

I came across an error for the first time saying:

An unexpected error occurred: The client lacks sufficient authorization :: Error creating new authz :: Validations for new domains are disabled in the V1 API (https://community.letsencrypt.org/t/end-of-life-plan-for-acmev1/88430)

I have no idea on how to fix it. Can anyone please help?

Hi @yashjain27,

I believe that Let’s Encrypt ACMEv1 protocol is no longer supported and you should upgrade to an ACMEv2.

You can take a look at the answer here on how to do that:

Hope that this helps! Regards, KFSys
