Configuring Droplet Hostname, /etc/hosts, /etc/hostname

Posted on January 22, 2015

I own xyz.net

Droplet Hostname: lmt.xyz.net

[/etc/hosts] 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain [public IP xx.xx.xx.xx] lmt.xyz.net lmt

[/etc/hostname] lmt.xyz.net

A record 1: @ [public IP xx.xx.xx.xx] CNAME record 1: * xyz.net. CNAME record 2: www xyz.net.

Is the above setup correct? Note: i DO NOT use the sub-domain [lmt.xyz.net] at all in serving my website.

so far no problem. i read many articles over the internet. so am confused. some used lmt.xyz.net, xyz.net or lmt as host name some set 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain some set 127.0.0.1 localhost lmt.xyz.net some only basic default 127.0.0.1 localhost

for my added CNAME records, i am also not sure if it is necessary or added correctly (*wildcard, www).

in short, i am a tweakist, i just want my box to be setup correctly.
