Question

Creating a new droplet for wordpress sites

I want to migrate existing wordpress sites to a new single droplet which seems a bit complex to me. Can I simply create a new droplet with one click wp installed and migrate sites using UpdraftPlus backups? I am looking for the easiest and smoothest method of doing that.

Also I want to store two wordpress sites in one droplet, so I guess normal droplet with one click wp installed will not work for that. Is there any way of doing that smoothly?

Hello, @rem3n

If you’re planning to host two WordPress sites on a single droplet you can choose a droplet that will match your needs (Disk, CPU and RAM) and then quickly deploy it. I will recommend you to go with Ubuntu 18.04 droplet.

You can host multiple websites on one droplet by adding multiple Apache Virtual Hosts.

Here’s a step by step article on how to do that:

As for the WordPress migration process, it’s not complex. You need to migrate the files using ssh (rsync or scp) or via sFTP and then copy your database as well. There are also WordPress plugins you can use in order to do that, plugins like Duplicator and All in one WP migration.

Hope this helps!
