I’m trying to update the packages on a fresh Ubuntu 24.10 droplet. Every time I run apt update I get an error informing me that the connection to the mirror cannot be established.

I’ve read around and it seems that the source file could be outdated:

I’ve tried changing the digitalocean mirrors to “http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu” but that is not working.

What I could suggest starting with is to confirm that your Droplet has internet access. You can test by pinging Google:
If this fails, the issue might be with your network configuration on the Droplet. Try restarting your network service:
If the issue persists, double-check your firewall settings, both on DigitalOcean (Cloud Firewalls) and on the Droplet (UFW) to ensure that outbound connections aren’t being blocked.

Update the Mirror Sources:
- Modify your
/etc/apt/sources.listfile to use Ubuntu’s primary archive instead of DigitalOcean’s mirrors. Open the file:

On top of what’s already been mentioned, your error messages show IPv6 addresses, which suggests that apt is attempting to connect over IPv6. If your network setup doesn’t support IPv6, you can force apt to use IPv4:
echo 'Acquire::ForceIPv4 "true";' | sudo tee /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99force-ipv4

However as mentioned you can first ensure that the droplet is able to access external sources and that the network is functioning as expected.
