Does using DigitalOcean domain name servers cost extra money?

Posted on September 8, 2015

As I am following a tutorial, I wonder if using DigitalOcean domain name servers would cost extra money on top of monthly droplet fee.

Thanks in advance :)

No. DNS hosting is free for all DigitalOcean customers =)

follow-up question, since this is related and I stumbled upon this from a web-search:

  • I started a droplet , tested some DNS functionality, then stopped the droplet.
  • Notice that DNS is still running?
  • if I am NOT actively running a droplet at that time do we still get the DNS functionality? I still intend to be creating/destroying/using droplets, but I wanted to confirm the availability of the DNS management function so I don’t have to be always running a droplet just so that DNS doesn’t go down.
