Hello
Let’s say that my Droplet IP is 188.226.224.1 (well, in fact it is my Gateway)
In some webs, they say that I am in the Russian Federation: Example: http://dawhois.com/ While others, in Netherlands: Example: http://www.whereisip.net/ http://www.super-ping.com/
In this page: http://www.iplocation.net/ you can see that the IP2Location, IPligence and IPAddressLabs services locate the IP in Amsterdam, while MaxMind-GeoLiteCity locate the IP in the Russian Federation.
I know that it is not a big issue as the Droplet is really in Netherlands. But because of Data Protection Law and Privacy and Electronic Communications EU Directive, I should have the server in Europe (and also provide confidence to my customers that it is really in Europe)
Probably you should make an inquiry to MaxMind Geolocation services to update their database. Should I open a ticket ?
Thanks
Roger

I do not see why this would affect your server.

This is just geo ip databases being dumb.
Hello Justaguy

I am aware that geo databases does not have anything to do with my droplet. It is about confidence to my customers.

Regards
It’s fairly common that some services will show the wrong geolocation, they’re not all entirely pinpoint accurate. A lot of the time, this comes down to the database not being up-to-date.

Since there’s inconsistency showing, it’s likely that there’s an update coming soon.
