failed to upgrade ubuntu "Err Upgrade tool signature"

I was attempting to upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04, but do-release-upgrade threw this error: 0% [Connecting to mirrors.digitalocean.com (104.21.29.13)]

Heya @dadwg,

It seems like you were unable to connect to the mirror - mirrors.digitalocean.com.

Are you by any chance using a Firewall that is filtering connections on port 80? This seems like an issue with exactly that.

When you do apt update do you get the same error?
