I loved that article, “How To Serve Flask Applications with Gunicorn and Nginx on Ubuntu 18.04.” I am new to development and am using a mac. Will I have to change to Ubuntu to use this tutorial, or can I somehow adapt it to Darwin which is native to the mac?

You can most likely install most the services outlined in that article to your Mac. Some items may be slightly different such as file locations but should be fairly close.
I am assuming this is on a Mac you are using as a workstation for development. A suggestion would be to use virtualization such as Virtualbox or even Canonicals Multipass to run Ubuntu Server locally.
