I have a namecheap domain currently setup for github pages. I want to point the dev. subdomain at digitalocean however. I tried to set an NS record in namecheap for the dev subdomain to the digitalocean nameservers and then set the hostname for the droplet to dev.myhostname.com. This… didn’t seem to work. Any suggestions?

I evidently did it correctly and it just took quite a while to propagate. For future reference for anyone else I set it up the following way: <br> <br>On namecheap: <br> <br>@ – www.mywebsite.com. – CNAME <br>www – myusername.github.io. – CNAME <br> <br>dev – ns1.digitalocean.com. – NS <br> <br>On digitalocean: <br> <br>Machine hostname is dev.mywebsite.com. <br>Add DNS for dev.mywebsite.com, keep the default @ A record (the droplet’s IP)
Hey @shawncplus! I’m trying to do the same thing, but I’m confused about your answer.
I have a domain on namecheap, and it (website.com) points to github pages. I want to create a subdomain (subdomain.website.com) on namecheap and point it to a Digital Ocean droplet.
In my namecheap, I have: @ - 192.30.252.153 - A(Address) @ - 192.30.252.154 - A(Address) www - mywebsite.com. - CNAME(Alias)
On my digitalocean: Under the DNS, I created a dev.mywebsite.com and if you click on ‘View,’ I kept the default @A record with the droplet’s IP and the three default NS1.DIGITALOCEAN.COM. rows.
