Help changing public hostname to domain name

Posted on September 14, 2015

Hello, I am in the process of putting my first beginner application on the web. I have it running and my domain name points to it, however when I check what the hostname is from a 3rd party website like http://www.displaymyhostname.com/ all I am getting is my droplet IP. I have not changed anything from stock settings besides upload my application.

I am deploying a meteor application on ubuntu 14.04.

Short Version: I am running an application and my public hostname does not point to my domain name, just droplet iP.

Thanks in advance, I am excited to keep moving along with development after I resolve this issue.

The page you mentioned appears to use the PTR record, performing a reverse lookup on the IP address. Your PTR record is created automatically if the name of your droplet is a valid domain or subdomain name. Renaming your droplet from the control panel will update your droplet’s PTR though the change may take a bit to propagate.
