I tried using PuTTY to add public key authentication, and in spite of following the How-To instructions I suppose something went wrong somewhere since I’m asked for a passphrase when I try to connect to the server with PuTTY. I don’t know what my next step should be.

This one https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/droplets/how-to/add-ssh-keys/create-with-putty/ I did save my session. I don’t know what you mean by “Are you selecting the key from the options panel on the left, under the Connection -> SSH -> Auth portion?”
Which particular How To did you follow? Are you selecting the key from the options panel on the left, under the Connection -> SSH -> Auth portion? Did you save/resave your session info after selecting the key?
I can’t seem to edit the question, so I wanted to add that my goal is simply to run a couple of discord bots written in Python.
