High Availability Setup with Heartbeat and Floating IPs question about location

Hi,

I followed the High Availability Setup with Heartbeat and Floating IPs for Ubuntu 16.04 with both droplets in the UK.

I was wondering if I can have a droplet in the UK and France or elsewhere. Or the droplets need to be in the same location?

Regards, Garry

Hi Garry

Droplets need to be in the same data center for Load Balancers and Floating IPs. So technically you’re only protecting yourself from local server hardware failures. Network, weather, and geopolitical issues will affect availability.

Cheers

Hi,

So I presume the answer to that is setup another set in a different datacenter and failover to them if the main set goes down, then use DNS failover or maybe even round robin.
