How do I add the email records from Namecheap?

Posted on January 25, 2015

Hey,

I have a private email address with Namecheap. After creating it, this message appears: “This domain name is using third party DNS, please contact your DNS provider to add the following records:”. I think this is what I have to add:

Hostname | Record Type | Priority | Valuea @ | MX | 10 | mx1.privateemail.com @ | MX | 10 | mx2.privateemail.com mail | CNAME | | privateemail.com @ | TXT | | v=spf1 include:spf.privateemail.com ~all

So my question is, how do I add these records? My final goal is to forward my email to gmail, but I think I have to resolve this issue first.

Thank you -Val

You’ve probably figured this out already but I figured I’d post just in case anyone else is searching for this like I was,

  1. Go to digitalocean.com
  2. Login and click on ‘DNS’ in the top menu
  3. Click on ‘View’ (the search icon) for the domain name you created the email for
  4. Click add record of type MX, in ‘Hostname’ box, enter mx1.privateemail.com , in ‘Enter Priority’ enter 10
  5. Repeat step 4 but with mx2.privateemail.com in the Hostname box.
  6. Add another record, type CNAME. In field ‘Enter Name’, enter mail. In 'Enter Hostname’, enter ‘privatemail.com
  7. Add another record, type TXT. In ‘Enter Name’, enter @. In ‘Enter Text’, enter v=spf1 include:spf.privateemail.com ~all .

You must check at namecheap to see the up to date information to enter here. I got my information from this page

On namecheap look for the domain name in your control panel, edit the domain and add the mx records as mentioned abode.

If your domain name is not managed by namecheap, you need to modify dns records on the current register company.
