Great question! We should break apart two things here though, because it’s important to recognize the separation of these two layers.

1. Account
2. Website

Inviting someone to your account (team) gives them administration access over your server, from the control panel level. It does not necessarily give them the password to your server (unless they use the root password reset option), and it may or may not give them the desired level of access to your website.

When giving someone access to your DigitalOcean account, you’re giving them access to this: https://cloud.digitalocean.com

How you manage your website can be completely separate from how you manage your account with us. They may not know how to manage the website by accessing your account, and similarly you may not be aware of how to help them manage the website by giving them access to your account. This is something we hear often, and that makes it worth mentioning.

If you want to invite someone to help you manage your website, this is something that only you can know how to do, because only you know what software you run and what it’s management capabilities are.
